Peter Ripperger

Peter has lived in Lewisboro for over 50 years and is a lifetime member of the South Salem Fire Department.  He also served with the Lewisboro Police Department for 24 years where he was a sergeant and department administrator for 11 years.  In addition, Peter also worked as the Director of Environmental Services for SunHealth Care where he managed numerous health care facilities. Peter and his wife, Deb, currently reside in Vista where they raised their two daughters. They are also proud grandparents of one beautiful 2 year old grandson.  Peter was first elected Highway Superintendent in 2003 and is responsible for over 93 miles of roads in the Town of Lewisboro.  He supervises his department and has been actively bringing updated knowledge back from Cornell School of Roads which he has attended annually for the past 15 years.  He is involved with storm water projects, road rehabilitation, and environmentally sound winter ice removal techniques, and continuously strives to update the highway equipment. All while striving to be more efficient with the Town’s current resources.   Some of the things Peter has accomplished in his role as Highway Superintendent include:

  • completed computer tracking of all road-related tasks
  • scheduled paving programs and inventoried such programs using new and old ideas for paving
  • works with the town engineer and wetland inspector for total mapping of all drain basins and piping related to storm water, and their maintenance
  • commenced a plan to auction off obsolete/unused equipment to raise funds to be be added back into budget for other purchases and save the Town money
  • entered in to inter-municipal agreements with North Salem and Pound Ridge to share resources, such as equipment, when needed
  • involved with all storm water regulation and employee training as part of the storm water committees
  • implements an aggressive snow removal programming in plowing and salting keeping a watchful eye out on salt usage
  • continues to work very closely with the Cornell School of Roads and the Association of the Towns of the State of New York
  • 16 years veteran of the Cornell School of Roads
